About

Paul Hillier is a freelance photographer who was born in Montreal (though he never learned French) and has lived in Toronto, Nova Scotia and Japan. He has now settled back in Toronto. Paul graduated from Sheridan College in 2000, and developed his sharp visual sense working as a graphic designer and illustrator before turning to photography while living in Japan.

Paul’s photography has been seen in the pages of Maclean’s, Metropolis Magazine, Kansai Time Out, Japanzine, the Toronto Star, as well as on CTV News and CBC News. He has also exhibited in Toronto and appeared in a special profile on CNN about his experience in street fashion photography.

Paul is passionate about all aspects of photography, from finding moments of beauty and wonder in the mundane and the everyday, to meticulously building a visual opus from scratch.

Paul is almost never without his camera, and he has taken it travelling from the temples of Angkor Wat to the cauldrons of active volcanoes in Japan and the roasting deserts of the Emirates. Though he thinks he can now speak Japanese, he still plans to learn French!
